About Keith Heier, MD

Dr. Heier is an Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in surgery and reconstruction of the foot and ankle due to trauma and sports related injuries.  He performs complex reconstructions, including fusions, total ankle replacements, and arthroscopy.  Dr. Heier is one of few surgeons across the country board certified in Orthopedic Surgery, fellowship trained in Foot and Ankle Surgery, and subspecialty certified in Sports Medicine.  

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Heier received his M.D.. at the University of Florida, where he ranked 3rd in his class. He completed his surgical residency at Baylor College of Medicine and received his fellowship training in Foot and Ankle surgery at Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa, under the direction of top Orthopedic foot and ankle trauma doctor, Roy Sanders, and Arthur Walling.  

Dr. Heier serves as a consultant for Small Bone Innovations, Inc., teaching Orthopedic Surgeons how to successfully perform surgical replacements with their STAR Ankle, the only 3-piece mobile bearing total ankle available in the United States. From 1995 to 2005, he consulted for the Agility ankle, which was the first commonly used prosthesis.  Dr. Heier also has extensive experience using the Salto Ankle, by Tornier, in total ankle replacement surgeries.  

He has been the team physician for Hebron High School since 1999 and currently serves as the Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Specialist for Major League Soccer team, FC Dallas. Dr. Heier has authored chapters on ankle fractures, ankle dislocations and ankle arthrodesis for three separate medical publications, including one published by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He is also a long standing Editor for the Journal of Orthopedic Trauma.  

He lives in Plano with his wife and two daughters.
